Starbase, TX
Starbase Tours & Public Access
Looking for a SpaceX Starbase tour? Here's the honest answer: there is no official SpaceX tour of the factory or launch pad, and no official visitor center. But you can absolutely see Starbase — for free on your own, or through a real third-party launch-viewing operator. Here's how.
Does SpaceX Give Tours of Starbase?
No. As of 2026, SpaceX runs no public tours of the Starbase factory, Starfactory, or launch pad, and there is no official SpaceX visitor center or museum. Starbase is an active spaceport and manufacturing site. The City of Starbase's own government page confirms there are no publicly accessible businesses or amenities in the community yet. If you see an ad for an “official SpaceX factory tour,” it isn't affiliated with SpaceX.
See Starbase for Free (Self-Guided)
Drive State Highway 4 past the build site
When SH-4 (Boca Chica Blvd) is open, you can drive from Brownsville right past the Starfactory, tank farm, and launch towers, and stop along the public road to see Starship and Super Heavy up close. It's the closest the public can legally get — and it's free.
Visit Boca Chica Beach
The public beach at the very end of Highway 4, just past the launch site. Open by default, but closed by the City of Starbase / Cameron County during testing and launches. Always check closures first.
Watch a launch from South Padre Island
Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island is the most popular free viewing spot — about 5 miles across the ship channel from the pad, with parking and restrooms. See our map for exact spots and sightlines.
Before you drive out, always check road closures — Highway 4 and Boca Chica Beach close during testing and launches. See the map for exact viewing spots, and plan your visit for the full guide.
Paid Launch-Viewing Tours & Charters
These independent operators (not SpaceX) run paid launch-viewing experiences. Prices and dates change with each launch and sell out fast once SpaceX confirms a date — confirm directly with the operator before you book.

Starbase Tours — FAQ
Are there official SpaceX Starbase tours?
No. As of 2026, SpaceX does not run any public tours of the Starbase factory, Starfactory, or launch pad, and there is no official SpaceX visitor center. The City of Starbase's own website confirms there are no publicly accessible businesses or amenities in the community yet. Anyone advertising an 'official SpaceX factory tour' is not affiliated with SpaceX.
Can you tour Starbase at all?
You can see Starbase in two ways. First, free and self-guided: drive State Highway 4 past the build site and out to Boca Chica Beach whenever the road is open, and view the rockets from the public road. Second, through third-party operators — a private ranch (Rocket Ranch) sells land launch-viewing packages, and several South Padre Island / Port Isabel boat charters run launch-viewing cruises. None of these are SpaceX or official Starbase tours.
How much do Starbase launch-viewing tours cost?
It varies by operator and by launch. Boat launch-viewing cruises from South Padre Island run roughly $45 to $100+ per person. Rocket Ranch's land launch-viewing packages have been about $200 per adult ($40 for kids), including shuttle transport and a night of camping. Prices and availability change with each launch and sell out quickly once SpaceX confirms a date, so confirm directly with the operator.
Is there a Starbase visitor center or rocket garden?
No. There is currently no official SpaceX visitor center, museum, or 'rocket garden' open to the public at Starbase. Claims of an official visitor center with hourly guided tours are inaccurate. The publicly accessible experience is the self-guided Highway 4 drive and Boca Chica Beach.
How close can you get to the SpaceX rockets?
When Highway 4 is open, you can drive right past the build site and stop along the public road to see Starship and Super Heavy hardware up close — within a few hundred yards. During launches and most testing the road is closed at a checkpoint, so the closest viewing then is from across the water on South Padre Island, about 5 miles away.
