Privacy Policy

Starbase Events is a small, independently run site about launches and events around Starbase, South Padre Island, and Brownsville, Texas. It is operated from the United States and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to SpaceX. This page explains what we collect and what we do with it, in plain English.

The Short Version

  • You can read this whole site without giving us anything.
  • If you sign up for launch alerts, we keep your email, plus your first name and phone number if you chose to give them.
  • We use it to tell you about launches. That's it.
  • If you buy from the store, Stripe handles your card and we give your shipping address to our print partner to mail the order.
  • We have never sold or rented your information, and we won't.
  • Google shows the ads here and uses cookies to do it.
  • Your details are stored in the United States.
  • Email us anytime and we'll delete you from the list.

What We Collect

If you sign up for launch alerts. Your email address, which is required, and your first name and phone number, which are both optional. Signups go into a private Google spreadsheet that only we can see.

If you submit an event. Only the event details themselves: title, description, date, time, location, and category. The form does not ask who you are, and we do not store anything about you.

Automatically, like every website. Our host keeps short-lived server logs that include your IP address and browser type. Google sets advertising cookies. We do not run any analytics product of our own, so we cannot see individual visitors or follow you around the site.

One exception worth naming. If a signup fails to save to the spreadsheet, we write it to those same server logs so the signup isn't simply lost, and we move it over by hand. It is rare, and the details are treated exactly like a normal signup.

On your device only. When you close the launch-alerts popup, your browser saves a small note so it stops bothering you. That note never leaves your device and never reaches us.

What We Do With It

We use your email to tell you about Starship launches: the schedule, a heads-up the day before, and whether it flew or scrubbed. We use your first name only to say hello properly.

We have never sold or shared your personal information, including in the past twelve months, and we do not rent it, trade it, or hand it to advertisers. The only companies that can see it are the handful of services we use to run the site, listed further down.

Payments and Orders

If you buy something from the store, two more companies come into it, and only for that order.

Stripe handles the payment. Your card number is entered on Stripe's own secure checkout and goes straight to them. It never touches our servers, and we never see or store it. We only learn that a payment succeeded, and your email, so we can send a receipt and fulfill the order.

Printify, our print-on-demand partner, actually makes and mails your order. To do that we pass along the name and shipping address you enter at checkout. They use it to print the item and ship it to you, and for nothing else on our behalf. See our shipping and returns policies for how orders work.

Text Messages

A phone number is always optional, and never required to sign up for launch alerts. If you give us one, here is exactly what you agreed to at the time:

By adding your number you agree to receive launch alert texts from Starbase Events. Msg and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out.

Reply STOP to any text and the messages end. We keep a record of the exact wording you agreed to and when, which is the only reason we store it.

Email You Can Stop Anytime

Every email we send has an unsubscribe link. Use it and you are off the list. You can also just email us and ask.

Ads and Cookies

This site is free because Google shows ads on it. Google and its partners use cookies to serve those ads, and in some cases to personalize them based on your past browsing.

You can turn off personalized ads at Google My Ad Center, or opt out more broadly at optout.aboutads.info. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site works fine either way.

To be straight with you: we don't control what Google collects through those ads and we never see it. Google explains its side of it in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Who Else Can See Your Data

Google AdSense

Serves the ads on this site, and sets cookies to do it.

Google Sheets and Apps Script

Stores the launch-alerts signup list in a private spreadsheet.

Vercel

Hosts the site and keeps short-lived server logs.

Stripe

Processes store payments. Your card details go to Stripe, never to us.

Printify

Prints and ships store orders, using the name and address you enter.

How Long We Keep It

We keep your signup until you ask us to remove it, or until we shut the alerts down. There is no schedule beyond that, because there is no reason for us to hold a list of people who no longer want it.

Your Choices

Email mitch@brandyourstoryonline.com and we will tell you what we have about you, correct it, or delete it. We do this for anyone who asks, wherever you live, and we do not ask you to explain why. Expect a reply within 30 days, and usually a lot sooner than that.

We will never make you worse off for asking. There is no version of this site that works differently because you opted out of something.

If You Are Outside the United States

The site is run from the United States, and the services we use store data there, so signing up means your information is handled in the US. If that isn't what you want, don't sign up: you can read everything here without giving us anything.

If you are in the UK, EU, or somewhere with similar rules, the only reason we hold your details is that you chose to give them to us, and you can take that back at any time by emailing us. You can also ask for a copy of what we have, ask us to correct it, or ask us to erase it, and you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority if you think we have handled it badly.

Kids

This site is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect anything from them. If your child signed up, email us and we will delete it.

Security

The signup list lives in a private spreadsheet, the connection to it is protected by a secret key, and the whole site is served over HTTPS. That said, we are a small operation and no website can promise perfect security, so we only collect what we actually need.

Changes to This Policy

If we start collecting something new, we will update this page and change the date at the top. No sneaky rewrites.
