The public can watch a Starship launch from Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island, 4.8 miles from the launch pad; the wider South Padre Island beachfront, 8.0 miles from the launch pad; and the Highway 48 boat ramp, 8.8 miles from the launch pad. Those are straight-line distances to the pad, not driving distances: South Padre Island is about five miles across the bay but about an hour's drive around it. The launch pad and the Starfactory are private and closed to the public, and Boca Chica Beach itself is closed by the City of Starbase on launch and test days.
