South Padre Island Tree Lighting Ceremony

Every year, South Padre Island kicks off the holiday season with its Tree Lighting Ceremony, a community gathering that marks the official start of the Island’s holiday weekend. Friends, family, and neighbors come together to watch the tree light up, hear from local performers, and settle into the holiday spirit. This year’s ceremony takes place on December 3 at 5:30 p.m. The evening features performances from local school choirs and cheer teams, along with a welcome from the South Padre Island Mayor before the tree lighting itself. Hosted by the City of South Padre Island, the ceremony puts the community front and center in kicking off the season. Hot chocolate and cookies are available while supplies last. This event kicks off the Island’s holiday weekend lineup with the Christmas Parade, Lighted Boat Parade, and Breakfast with Santa next!
