Where to watch / Boca Chica Beach
Can you watch Starship from Boca Chica Beach?
No. Boca Chica Beach sits beside the launch site, and the City of Starbase closes it, and State Highway 4, for every launch. Watch from Isla Blanca Park instead, 4.8 miles away across the water.

How big it looks
Hold your thumb up at arm's length. Starship looks about half your thumb tall.
The flame and the exhaust cloud look much bigger than the rocket.
When you hear it
You see the flame first. The sound arrives about 22 seconds later.
How it compares
Straight-line distance to the launch pad. Rocket Ranch shows its own figure for its viewing area.
The catch
The beach is open on most days. It closes when the City posts an order, and failing to leave the closed area is a criminal offense under that order.
On launch day
- For Flight 14, the City closed the beach and State Highway 4 from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. on launch day.
- The City's order names other beaches: Cameron County Beach Access No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 on South Padre Island.
- Each order names its hours. Read them on the road closures page before you drive out.
